A very successful formation clinic was held May 18th to May 21st, 2023. I want to report that the Martinsburg Spring B2OSH Formation Clinic was a resounding success and a great time.
Just some of the aircraft attending the 2023 Martinsburg Formation Clinic
Kudos to the event organizer, John Zazworsky (Zaz), and all the safety pilots–too many to mention. The ground crew and controllers at KMRB were outstanding. Really, everybody who attended deserves a pat on the back for their professionalism.
Zaz’s initial formation brief on Thursday.
We had 23 aircraft attending and we had mix of Bonanzas, Barons and Mooney airframes. About 30 pilots attended during various times. While I’m waiting for the final numbers, we had a number of new to formation pilots and several qualified for the B2OSH flight this summer.
Cardio and his extensive brief on Sunday morning
The focus of the weekend-long clinic was two-ship maneuvers. Once qualified in two-ship maneuvers, we transitioned to 3-ship element takeoff, formation mauvers, and landings. After an extensive brief, Sunday morning all aircraft participated in a simulation of the B2OSH divert to landing on the West runway at KOSH. This simulated the most common diversion the B2OSH formation might be called upon to carry out.
Please let me know if you have any photos and movies you might have of the event and I’ll post them here. Stay tuned.
